National Parks Service
– John
Manson gave us another update on the tree situation.
Basically he had no update and said he would have one at the
November meeting. He is also checking on the feasibility of
having the park benches moved to cement slabs just off of
the sidewalks.
Mayor’s Office - Anthony
Gilardi thanked the association again for the great turn out
at our annual clean-up. He also told us about the new trash
barrels at the bottom of the golden stairs and the one at
the corner of W 4th and Dorchester St.
National Historic Register - It has finally happened.
The Dorchester Heights Historic District is now a reality.
We have been officially placed on the National Register of
Historic places. There will be a formal presentation
ceremony at the December 13th DHA meeting at the Marian
Manor. Announcements will be made in all of the newspapers
and we expect media coverage as well.
South Boston High School - The
7.5 million dollar and 15 month rehab construction project
at the high school is well underway. During the summer 2
floors were painted. In the spring of 2002 all of the
windows in the school will be replaced and a new science lab
will be installed. Last school year a total of 39 fire
alarms occurred at the school. Tom Palleri told us again, if
anyone notices high school students doing anything wrong
call the school at 617-635-9857 and report it.
SEE YOU ALL AT THE NEXT MEETING!
