Meeting Minutes
September 21th, 2000
Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Number of attendees: 47
DHA
President
- Kevin
Delehanty opened the meeting and welcomed everyone and
restated our charter as an organization.
Our primary goal as an organization, is for the
betterment of all who live in our neighborhood on issues
involving our neighborhood and the community of South Boston
as a whole.
The Dorchester Heights Association is a non-political
organization.
We work with all elected officials and will always
function in the best interests of the membership and
community.
National
Parks Service - John
Manson told the association the Dorchester Heights open
house was a great success.
He acknowledged Ed and Cheryl McLaughlin for
providing the Parks Service with a new updated map of Boston
during the revolutionary period. The Sugar Maple trees are
dying due to the type of soil they were planted in.
The soil in that area of the park is being analyzed
and they will plant new trees that will flourish in that
area of the park.
South
Boston High School
Kevin
Delehanty spoke on behalf of the high school.
Kevin told us that Tom Paleri would be attending all
future meetings.
Tom has acknowledged the Dumpster is a major issue,
which he plans to address this year.
The school is going to continue to let the
neighborhood park in the schoolyard between the hours of 4pm
and 6:15am.
Flyers were placed on cars to ensure the owners are
aware of this policy. We should be thankful to the school
for this privilege.
This will greatly help with the over crowded parking
situation in the Dorchester Heights area. The association
will be asking if the school is going to open the library
for us to have a meeting there and also if they will open it
up to the neighborhood for use.
This will be discussed at the October 12th
DHA meeting.
Neighborhood
Crime Watch - Peter
Alto is asking for more volunteers to join this group.
Peter will be setting up a meeting soon and will
issue a call tree of the current members.
There will be more on this at the October 12th
meeting.
South
Boston Betterment Trust - Maryann
McLoud Crush and Bill Bailey where on hand and gave us an
outstanding presentation on what the Betterment Trust is all
about.
They also addressed questions about all the recent
press and actually provided us with the rest of the
story that somehow seems to be missing from all of the
news articles these days.
Both Maryann and Bill can be reached at 617-268-1797
if you have any questions or comments about the Betterment
Trust.
Dorchester Heights National Historical
Register Nomination - The
nomination should be completed by the end of summer. Any
questions concerning the nomination should be directed to
Jennifer Goold from the Boston Landmarks Commission at
617-635-2519. You can also email her at jennifer.goold@ci.boston.ma.us.
