Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Number of attendees: 34
Mayors Office
Anthony Gilardi announced as
part of the Mayors Neighborhood Clean up Program the
Thomas Park and surrounding area clean up day will be
Saturday May 20th. We would like for everyone in
the neighborhood to join us on the front steps of the high
school at 9am on Saturday May 20th . The city
will be providing tools and trash bags for the clean up. We
would like to have a couple of volunteers from each street
to help pass out flyers. The flyers will be passed out at
the Thursday May 11th DHA meeting. We need all of
your help to make our neighborhood look great for the
upcoming summer.
Dorchester Heights National Historical
Register Nomination - There will
be representatives from the Boston Landmarks Commission at
the next DHA meeting on May 11th to brief us on
the progress of the nomination process and to answer any
questions you may have. This may be the last DHA meeting we
will be discussing this prior to the nomination being final.
There will be a full neighborhood meeting that will be
sponsored by the Landmarks Commission to get the final
approval of all of the homeowners within the boundaries of
the Historic District. This is a meeting you should not
miss.
National Park Service
- Marc Vagos once again stressed
to all present the importance of picking up after dogs up on
the park and keeping them on a leash. While most people who
bring there dogs up to the park pick up, there are still a
lot that dont. We all need to pitch in and tell people
about the free mutt mitts, and ask them to use them.
2nd Annual DHA Summer Starter
Picnic and Membership Drive This
years meeting season is about to come to an end and that
means it is time for our Summer Starter Picnic and
Membership Drive. The picnic will be held on Thursday June 8th
at 6pm to 8pm, up on the Dorchester Heights Park. We would
like maximum participation and ask that all members bring a
friend, neighbor or relative to join our organization. We
are growing and have doubled our membership from 1999 to
2000. Our goal is to have at least another 50 of our
neighbors to join are worthwhile association. We will be
making further plans and asking for more volunteers to make
this years picnic a great success.
South Boston High School
- Walter Wood addressed the
membership and informed us of an intervention that is taking
place at the high school. All information about the
intervention will be published in the local newspapers.
Boston Police Department
- Police Officer Billy Hasson reported
there are still car break ins occurring in the neighborhood.
He stressed to us all to keep valuables, bags, laptops and
cell phones out of our cars. This is what the thieves are
looking for. Ed Wallace reported he spoke to Captain Crowley
about a letter that Mary Logue received in the mail from a
Dallas Texas Company called Trans America Mortgage Company.
This company tried to bill her over $500.00 for payment for
taxes over paid. This is a scam, they are targeting seniors,
if any of you receive such a letter you should contact your
mortgage company and report it.
Future agenda items
- National Historic Register, Resident
Parking, Boston 2000, Convention Center, Waterfront
projects, Whats going to happen to Southie High and
whatever else you all want to talk or do something about. So
come to our meetings and please feel free to bring up items
you would like to see placed on the agenda. We need members
to come out, stand and be heard, and contribute to the
overall quality of all of our lives in this great
neighborhood.
Neighborhood Crime Watch
There
will be updates at the May 11th meeting.
