National Parks Service – John Manson told the Association the Dorchester Heights Evacuation Day events on the heights were a great success. There were a couple of hundred people up there and all of the politicians you could fit on the monument stairs. He also told us there is a $75,000 proposal for the replacement of the trees that died a couple of years ago. John also told us that since they couldn’t provide us with the tent for our Annual BBQ, the Park Service as waived the required $50.00 fee for the use of the park.

Neighborhood Crime Watch - We are seeking people who would like to become members of the neighborhood crime watch. This is not a walk the streets type of group. We use the telephone as our weapon to combat crime in this neighborhood. It is time to expand this group to individual streets. We are looking for volunteers to be street leaders. The small Crime Watch group we have now was able to cleaned up the golden stairs and keep the large groups of drinking teens off the heights and from behind the school. Imagine what we could do if we had more coverage.

3rd Annual Neighborhood Clean-up - The clean-up has been scheduled for Saturday, May 11th from 9AM to 12PM. We are all meeting in front of the high school at 8:45AM. The city will be providing tools, bags and T-shirts. There may even be some coffee and donuts available. Please come out and support this great effort. Last year we had about 100 people and we could have used more! So please plan to spend a morning meeting your neighbors and to help make our neighborhood clean!

Officer Elections - The election of Officers and Directors will be held at the next meeting May 9th, 2002. You are highly encouraged to attend this meeting and please if you would like to volunteer to become and officer of the DHA don’t be shy about letting it be known. The only requirement is you have to be a member in good standing according to the DHA By-Laws. We need people who want to make a difference!
