Time: 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Number of attendees: 38
Dorchester Heights National Historical
Register Nomination -
No further updates on this issue. There will be another
committee meeting in the near future. All committee members
will be notified of the date and time. Any other updates
will be given at the next DHA meeting on Thursday April 13th
at 7pm.
National Park Service
- John Manson gave a presentation
on the history of the events leading up to Evacuation Day
and Ruth Rafael gave a presentation on the before and after
renovations on the Dorchester Heights Monument. Both of
these were outstanding and very well received and
appreciated by the members. Mark Vagos once again stressed
to all present the importance of picking up after dogs up on
the park and keeping them on a leash. While most people who
bring there dogs up to the park pick up, there are still a
lot that dont. We all need to pitch in and tell people
about the free mutt mitts, and ask them to use them.
South Boston High School
- Walter Wood addressed the
membership and informed us of an intervention that is taking
place at the high school. All information about the
intervention will be published in the local newspapers.
Boston Police Department
- Police Officer Joe Boyle was
presented with a Letter of Appreciation from the Dorchester
Heights Association for his outstanding police work in the
apprehension of armed robbers while on duty in our
neighborhood. Joe was also received Letters of Recognition
from Senator Steve Lynch on behalf of the State Senate,
Representative Jack Hart on behalf the State House of
Representatives and Mayor Tom Menino on behalf of the City
of Boston. On hand to do the presenting were Kevin Delehanty
for the DHA, Paula Noto for both Senator Lynch and Rep.
Hart, and Anthony Giulardi for Mayor Menino. The DHA also
presented Officer Boyle with a gift certificate to Amreins
Restaurant
In other matters
- Sgt. Meade reported there were 24 calls for
service, 12 of a routine nature, 8 criminal, 3 cars broken
into, and the person who is alleged to have paint balled the
monument has been caught and the gun which turned out to be
stolen confiscated. Sgt. Meade could not stress enough for
people to keep valuables out of sight and dont leave them
in your car. The most popular items the thieves are looking
for are cell phones, money, radios, gym bags and just about
anything that looks valuable. Keep your stuff out of sight
and if you see anyone doing anything-suspicious call 911 and
report it.
Future agenda items
- National Historic Register, Resident
Parking, Boston 2000, Convention Center, Waterfront
projects, Whats going to happen to Southie High and
whatever else you all want to talk or do something about. So
come to our meetings and please feel free to bring up items
you would like to see placed on the agenda. We need members
to come out, stand and be heard, and contribute to the
overall quality of all of our lives in this great
neighborhood.
