Time: 7:00 PM - 8:45
PM
Number of attendees: 32
National
Parks Service –
John
Manson will be providing the DHA with an updated version of
the Evacuation Day slideshow during our March 14th,
2002 meeting.
The March 16th Evacuation Day
program will be held from 10am to 3pm in the park.
There will be musket and artillery firings.
There will be cannon on display that have been
brought all the way from Fort Ticonderoga. The monument will
also be opened so if you haven’t seen the view from up
there it is definitely worth the climb.
South
Boston Port Transfer –
Bill
Spain was on hand and gave the Association a detailed
briefing on the new proposed South Boston Port Transfer
Station that will be located down in the seaport district on
the North Jetty.
The primary purpose of this facility will be for the
sorting and transfer of solid waste (not sewage) out of the
Boston area.
Bill told us that the trucks will be using the
service bypass road and the new I93 ramp in the seaport
district.
Trucks are not supposed to be passing through the
neighborhoods of South Boston.
Contact Bill Spain at 617-328-7668 for more
information.
Senator
Jack Hart –
Kevin Delehanty, our DHA President, read a letter
that was composed and sent to the Boston Public School
Department. Senator
Hart wrote a very strong letter stating that the recent
vacancy of a South Boston High School police officer should
be filled immediately.
Well guess what?
He did it! Thanks
to Senator Hart’s letter the vacancy has been filled and
the school police force is back up to full staff.
Thank you Senator Hart for caring enough to make a
difference.
Boston
Police –Patrolman Rich Doherty told us there were very
few incidents this past month.
Patrols have been increased between South Boston High
School and the Andrews Square T Station in the mornings and
afternoons to help keep the students moving along through
the neighborhood.
DHA By-Laws – The DHA By-Laws are now officially ratified and copies
will be available at the March 14th meeting.
Every member that does not pick on up at this meeting
will be mailed a copy.
Dog Poop issue –
We had an extended period of time discussing this
issue again last month.
Folks the time for talk about this at the monthly
meetings is over. This is old business and will no longer be an agenda item.
We have more important issues that need the small
amount valuable time we have each month at our meetings.
All complaints about this issue as far as the
Dorchester Heights National Park is concerned are to be
directed to the National Park Service by calling Chief
Ranger John W. Lynch at 617-242-5631, or email him at john_lynch@nps.gov.
All complaints about this issue as far as the
neighborhood is concerned are to be directed to the Boston
City Animal Control Officer at 617-635-5348 or 617-635-5349. You should also place a call to City Hall at 617-635-4000.
There is nothing further the Dorchester Heights
Association can do about this never-ending issue.
What you can do is pick up after your pets and
encourage everyone you see to do the same.
SEE YOU ALL AT THE NEXT MEETING!
