Minutes Meeting of February 8, 2005 

1.                  Welcome B President Peter Golemme called meeting to order at 7 PM.  27 persons  attending.

2.                  Police Update – Sergeant Meade and Officer Doherty reported a quiet month.  21 incidents in total, 1 B&E in the neighborhood, 2 arrests at SBEC.  Members were instructed to watch for vandalism of foreign auto headlights.

3.                  Parks Update – Ranger Steve Connor (for John Manson who was on vacation) reported an incident of graffiti in 2005 and noted that evidence of drug use has been found on the heights.  He reinforced that there is a 24-hour dispatch number for the parks service 617-242-5659.  This number can also be found on DHA website.

4.                  High School Update – Headmaster Virginia Ordway described some recent activities including student essay project and recent science fair. 

5.                  Guest Speaker:  Michael Dowling of Medicine Wheel Productions presented his programs including opportunities for student employment, samples of books, poetry and art work.  2 students of the program were present and discussed their experiences. This is the first year that Medicine Wheel has been operating year round.

6.                  Guest Speaker:  Sister. Ann Fox of The Paraclete Center presented the programs currently available for youth including Math Lab, cooking class, robotics, help with homework and other cultural and enrichment programs for youth.  The center is currently raising funds to build a school for girls in Rwanda. 

7.                  Update on Resident Parking Meeting of February 3, 2005 - Vice president Jean Conlin reported that resident parking will go into effect by late March or early April.  There will be reminders in the local news.  There will be a phase in program and courtesy tickets during the initial stage of enforcement.  Hours will be 8 AM- 6 PM Mon-Fri excluding holidays.

8.                  Alan Sidders running for Mayor of South Boston introduced himself and gave his campaign speed.  Purchased “Votes” help fund the parade and enter you in a raffle.

9.                  The June meeting will be a barbecue on the heights on 6/21.  A call for barbecue committee was made.  Anyone interested please contact Peter Golemme. 

10.              Announcements & General business

a.                   Next Meeting March 8th: at the South Boston Education Complex (HIGH SCHOOL).   Focus on History of Dorchester Heights, featuring special presentation/slide show from Ranger John Manson. Meeting is open to all.

b.                  April Meeting currently being planned:  Focus on Zoning and Neighborhood Development

c.                   Still Seeking monthly Web site sponsors $35 per month gets your name/link on the Web site
